When I started my writing services in 2024, I was deep in the “content creation” mindset. My biggest clients were corporations needing marketing materials, mostly emails and blogs. I also had some ghostwriting clients that needed manuscripts in tight turnarounds. So “Lightning Flash” felt like the perfect name for what I was doing so quickly.
While I still meet (or beat!) every deadline, I feel like my focus has shifted over the years. It’s less about a flash and more about the craft. I started thinking of how I could revamp my business to better showcase how I approach my work.
Then I thought back to the Instagram account I started in April 2020 called “Let’s Craft a Story”.
You remember those days, right? Lives disrupted, stuck at home, isolated.
Desperate for creativity and connection, I started an interactive storytelling project. I wrote first lines on postcards and mailed them to friends, who wrote the next lines on another postcard and mailed them back. I photographed every card, front and back, so the words would tell one story while the images on the cards themselves may tell another.
I also posted story starters and prompts on the account with the goal of kickstarting creativity in multiple ways.
But, as many pandemic projects did, this fizzled out. I still have everything but, once life got back to “normal” (we can argue that if you wish), fun pursuits fell to the wayside.
The more I thought about my approach to writing and editing, though, the more I realized that “Let’s Craft a Story” is exactly it!
I’m a ghostwriter bringing people’s ideas to life, but I’m not doing it all alone. I’m taking your idea, your voice, your outline, and writing it from there. Let’s! Craft!
I’m an editor giving feedback to your story, helping you see things from another point of view so it can become the best work it can be. Let’s! Craft!
Through Lightning Flash Writing, I not only wrote manuscripts, marketing content, and gave feedback, but I also posted writing prompts and shared my favorite stories by other writers on Instagram*. That falls perfectly in line with the spirit behind Let’s Craft a Story.
It became clear that my name change would be more like bringing two similar ideas together into something fun, innovative, and exactly what I want to convey to others.
I’m excited to launch Let’s Craft a Story in hopes that it shares the enjoyable side of writing.
It can feel lonely to write.
It can be a slog to revise.
But I’m here to help, every step of the way. So no matter what you need, reach out and let’s work together!
*As a note, I’m keeping the Lightning Flash Writing Instagram account as an archive instead of risking switching usernames and possibly losing both. So keep following Lightning Flash Writing to access all the stories and prompts I’ve previously shared, but also follow Let’s Craft a Story for everything to come!
